Margaret Read was the first woman architect in Boulder. She was born in Iowa, spent her childhood in Missouri, and moved to Boulder with her family in 1910. She attended the University of Colorado for two years, transferred to the University of California, and after graduation her first solo project was the house at 740 13th Street which she built for herself and her elderly father. John Nicholson came to Queensland in 1864 and purchased a property which was named "Grovely", and built "Grovely House". A proposal to build the church was raised in 1866, and work began in 1867. The foundation stone was laid by Sir George Bowen on 23 September 1867. The plan of the church was drawn by Charles Tiffin, Colonial Architect, and the church opened for services in February 1869.
